Jaume Guardeño, a 23‑year‑old rider with Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, remains in critical condition in hospital after a serious training accident.
The team announced that Guardeño was involved in a crash with a vehicle during a training session on Tuesday, shortly after competing in the Volta a Catalunya.
Emergency services airlifted him to Hospital Taulí in Sabadell, where he is being treated in the intensive care unit with severe injuries.
Media reports suggest the accident happened when Guardeño struck a stone on the road, lost control of his bike, and then collided with a car.
The impact caused major trauma, particularly to his head, leaving him under close medical observation as doctors continue to assess his condition. His team has expressed its full support for Guardeño and his family, wishing him a swift and complete recovery.
Guardeño had been viewed as one of Spain’s rising stars in cycling, finishing 29th overall at the Tour of Catalonia and 14th in last year’s Vuelta a España.
He was also in line to make his debut at the Tour de France this season before the accident.
