Jamaica and India Target Stronger Day Three Performances at Commonwealth Games

Jamaica and India will both aim for improved performances on the third day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as competition intensifies across several sports.

Jamaica's biggest focus will be the opening match of the Sunshine Girls in the netball competition. The world-ranked contenders face Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago in their first Pool B fixture at the Hydro Arena. The Sunshine Girls won silver at the previous Commonwealth Games and are again expected to challenge for a place in the final.

After Saturday's opener, Jamaica will continue pool play against New Zealand on Sunday before facing Uganda on Monday. They will return after a rest day to complete the group stage with two more fixtures later in the week.

Jamaica's men's 3x3 basketball team will also begin its campaign with a demanding schedule. The team takes on hosts England before facing Singapore and Fiji in its remaining group matches on the same day.

The Jamaican women's 3x3 basketball team enjoyed mixed fortunes on Friday. They secured a convincing 21-5 victory over the Cayman Islands, with Teneisia Brown scoring eight points. Brown also contributed six points in a narrow 18-17 overtime defeat to Uganda, while Jamaica suffered a 21-13 loss to Australia.

In swimming, Jessica Calderbank narrowly missed a place in the women's 50m butterfly final after finishing sixth in her semifinal in 26.88 seconds. Kito Campbell also reached the men's 100m breaststroke semifinal but finished eighth despite improving his time to 1:02.02. Sabrina Lyn will compete in the women's 100m breaststroke on Saturday, while Jamaica's mixed 4x100m freestyle relay team is also scheduled to race.

Lawn bowler Robert Simpson remains in action despite opening the men's singles competition with defeats against Scotland's Jason Banks and Fiji's Prasad Rajnesh.

Meanwhile, India enters Day Three with renewed confidence after winning its first medal of the Games. Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar claimed bronze in the men's heavyweight category, giving the country its breakthrough podium finish.

India will hope to build on that success with a busy schedule featuring boxing, lawn bowls, swimming, artistic gymnastics and wheelchair basketball. Boxer Sachin begins his men's 60kg campaign against Canada's Keoma Al-Ahmadieh, while lawn bowlers Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki continue their strong run in the women's pairs. Putul Sonowal also resumes his unbeaten men's singles campaign.

The Indian swimming team will be represented by Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra in the men's 400m freestyle heats, while the women's artistic gymnastics team competes in the team final and individual qualification events. The women's 3x3 wheelchair basketball team also faces Wales in Pool B as India looks to increase its medal tally before the weekend concludes.
