Jaden Deltel produced a brilliant round of golf on Tuesday, carding a six-under-par 66 to take a narrow lead in the seventh event of the Betway Big Easy Tour at Soweto Country Club. The Bryanston golfer made a flying start, collecting birdies on three of his first four holes and turning in a bogey-free 31 after adding another birdie on the ninth.
Deltel continued his strong play after the turn with another birdie on the 10th before dropping his only shot of the day on the par-five 13th. He quickly regained composure with a par at the next hole and closed strongly with two more birdies to secure the top spot after the opening round.
Reflecting on his performance, Deltel credited his strategy and composure in windy conditions, praising the course setup while highlighting the importance of accuracy around the greens.
England’s Harry Konig and Australia’s Austin Bautista sit just one stroke back after matching rounds of 67, each scoring six birdies with a single blemish on the par-three seventh. Dillon Germishuys follows in fourth with a 68, while five players, including Soweto local Irvin Mazibuko, share fifth place after carding 69s.
With two rounds remaining in this 54-hole event, the competition remains tight as the chasers look to unseat Deltel from the summit. The Betway Big Easy Tour, supported by golf legend Ernie Els, continues to provide a key platform for emerging talent on the Sunshine Tour circuit.
