Jacob Bridgeman Fires 61 to Win Biltmore Championship

Jacob Bridgeman produced a spectacular final round to win the inaugural Biltmore Championship Asheville on Sunday, overcoming a five-shot deficit with a career-best 10-under-par 61. The victory gave the 26-year-old his second PGA Tour title of the year.

Bridgeman finished the tournament at 26-under 258 at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville, North Carolina. His final-round card featured eight birdies and an eagle as he pulled away from fellow American Ben James to win by two strokes.

The South Carolina native made an early move by birdieing three of his opening four holes before adding an eagle at the par-five eighth. He remained in contention with important par saves on the 11th and 12th holes, then responded with three straight birdies to take control of the tournament.

James matched Bridgeman's 61 and stayed within striking distance during the closing stretch. He birdied three of his final four holes, but Bridgeman answered with more birdies before finishing with a par at the 18th to secure the title.

The victory was particularly memorable for Bridgeman because he grew up in nearby Inman, South Carolina, and had family and friends watching him compete. His first PGA Tour victory came earlier this year at The Genesis Invitational at Riviera.

Bridgeman also heads into next week's Presidents Cup at Medinah as a member of the United States team. He described representing his country in the team competition as a dream come true.

James finished second at 24 under, while Ricky Castillo and Neal Shipley shared third on 23 under. J.T. Poston and Jackson Koivun tied for fifth at 21 under after Poston fired a 60 and narrowly missed a birdie putt that would have given him a 59.

The Biltmore Championship opened the PGA Tour's FedExCup Fall series, which provides players with an opportunity to improve their standing and secure playing status for the following season.
