India Beat Pakistan by 19 Runs to Retain Asian Games Cricket Gold

Posted : 05 October 2026

India retained their Asian Games men's cricket gold medal after defeating fierce rivals Pakistan by 19 runs in a thrilling T20 final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The defending champions posted 211-6 before restricting Pakistan to 192-6 in their 20 overs.

India's innings was powered by explosive knocks from Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma. Abhishek smashed 61 from 28 balls, including seven sixes and three fours, while Tilak finished unbeaten on 51 from just 22 deliveries.

India made a rapid start after choosing to bat first. They reached 81-2 during the powerplay, with Abhishek putting Pakistan's bowlers under immediate pressure before he was dismissed in the eighth over.

Pakistan fought back during the middle overs and reduced India to 133-5 in the 15th over. Tilak then changed the momentum with an aggressive finish, combining with Shivam Dube in a 62-run partnership from 30 balls as India moved beyond 200.

Pakistan's chase began badly as they slipped to 39-3 inside seven overs. Hasan Nawaz then produced a remarkable counterattack, reaching his half-century from 28 balls and keeping Pakistan in contention.

Nawaz eventually made 96 from 51 deliveries. His innings included seven sixes and five fours, but he was dismissed from the final ball of the match as Pakistan finished 19 runs short.

India's bowlers shared the workload effectively. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube each claimed two wickets as they managed to contain Pakistan during the closing overs.

The victory gives India consecutive men's Asian Games cricket gold medals after their triumph at Hangzhou 2022. It also completed a cricket gold-medal double for India after the women's team defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in their final.

The final added another memorable chapter to the rivalry between India and Pakistan. The teams met on neutral ground in Japan, with the match attracting significant attention despite the relatively small crowd at the temporary venue.

India's victory also marked another successful campaign under captain Shreyas Iyer. The team showed composure after Pakistan threatened a late comeback, with Bumrah's penultimate over helping restrict the chase before Dube closed out the final over.
