Igali Rallies Team Nigeria Wrestlers for World Podium Finish

Posted : 28 October 2026

Olympic wrestling champion Daniel Igali has rallied Team Nigeria’s wrestlers and technical crew as the 2026 World Wrestling Championships enter their decisive phase, urging the team to remain focused on securing a podium finish.

Igali, a Bureau Member of United World Wrestling (UWW) and board member of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), visited the team’s camp to interact with coaches and boost morale ahead of their remaining challenges.

The visit comes as Nigeria seeks to end a three-year wait for a podium finish at the global championships, having established itself as a formidable force on the African wrestling scene.

Igali’s engagement with the coaching staff highlighted the importance of encouragement, unity, and adequate support as Nigerian wrestlers seek to convert their continental dominance into international success.

The former Olympic champion’s presence also reinforced the federation’s commitment to motivating the athletes and strengthening the team’s resolve against some of the world’s leading wrestlers.

The NWF Vice President, Christopher Yaba Amkpila, and the federation’s Secretary-General were also present during the visit, joining Igali in discussions with the coaching staff.

With the competition reaching a critical stage, Team Nigeria will be hoping to turn its preparations and renewed motivation into a podium finish, ending the country’s prolonged wait for a medal at the world championships.
