Hockey Super League Returns to Abuja with Focus on Competition and Development

Posted : 21 June 2026

Nigeria’s premier domestic hockey competition, the 2026 Hockey Super League, is set to take place in Abuja from June 25 to July 5 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, bringing together the country’s leading men’s and women’s teams to compete for national honours.

The championship will feature some of Nigeria’s top hockey talent over 10 days of intense action, with teams from across the country vying for the prestigious titles.

The tournament will begin on June 25 with opening fixtures, while the group stage will run from June 29 to July 2. The semi-finals are scheduled for July 3, before the champions in both the men’s and women’s categories are crowned on July 5.

Alongside the competition, organisers have included key development programmes such as a FIS Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Course, as well as an umpiring seminar, both scheduled to run from June 29 to July 4.

These initiatives aim to enhance the standard of coaching and officiating in Nigeria, strengthening the sport beyond competition by equipping coaches and referees with updated technical knowledge and skills.

With elite hockey action and capacity-building programmes running simultaneously, the 2026 Hockey Super League is expected to serve as an important platform for players, coaches, and officials while contributing to the continued growth of hockey in the country.

Abuja is expected to welcome hockey fans from across Nigeria as anticipation builds for one of the nation’s biggest hockey events of the year.
