New HFN President Ojih Pledges Unity, Development, and Continuity

Posted : 29 October 2025
Newly elected HFN President Jibril Saidu Ojih promises unity, grassroots development, and continuity.

The newly elected President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Mr. Jibril Saidu Ojih (FNIQS), has pledged to unite all stakeholders and drive the growth of handball nationwide, promising to build on the remarkable achievements of his predecessor, Samuel Ocheho.

In his inaugural address, Ojih expressed deep gratitude to the delegates and the handball community for the confidence placed in him, describing his election as “a testament to the strength of our shared vision for Nigerian handball and our collective commitment to excellence.”

He assured that his administration would prioritize grassroots development, player welfare, infrastructure improvement, and international competitiveness, while fostering a culture of love, peace, and inclusivity within the sport.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure Nigerian handball thrives and our athletes excel globally. Above all, we will cultivate a culture of love, peace, and unity.
We will promote inclusivity, equity, and transparency in all our decision-making processes,” Ojih stated.

The new HFN President also extended an olive branch to his opponents, urging them to unite with him in advancing the game.

“Let us put our differences aside and work together for the progress of Nigerian handball,” he appealed.

Ojih commended his predecessor, Samuel Ocheho, for his leadership and service to the sport, describing his tenure as one that laid a solid foundation for future growth. He also praised the outgoing board members for their invaluable contributions, promising that his administration would build on their successes while charting a new course for the future.

“I want to specially appreciate my predecessor, my dear brother and colleague, Ocheho, for his selfless service to the game of handball. His dedication and commitment have laid a strong foundation for us to build upon.
I also thank all board members for their efforts so far. Your contributions have been invaluable, and I look forward to continuing this journey together,” Ojih said.

Reaffirming his commitment to “consolidation and continuity,” Ojih outlined key focus areas for his administration, including unity, grassroots revival, player welfare, international collaboration, transparency, innovation, youth development, sponsorship partnerships, and the promotion of women’s handball and leadership.

Ojih, who currently serves as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Handball Association and North-Central Zonal Representative on the HFN board, was elected as the new HFN President over the weekend after defeating John Oris of the South-South Zone by a 9–5 vote margin in the presidential election conducted by the National Sports Commission at the Package B, Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Kashimawo Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
