Herman Loubser Equals Course Record to Take Commanding Sunbet Challenge Lead

Herman Loubser produced a sensational second-round performance to seize control of the Sunbet Challenge Time Square Casino, matching the Wingate Park Country Club course record with a brilliant eight-under-par 62.

His outstanding round lifted him to 15-under overall, giving him a three-shot advantage heading into Friday's final round of the Sunshine Tour event.

Loubser's impressive score matched the course record established by Thriston Lawrence and Jacques Blaauw during the same tournament in 2024. His flawless display featured eight birdies and an eagle, with exceptional accuracy throughout the day as he hit every green in regulation for the first time in his career.

Lawrence remained one of his closest challengers after a second-round 65, sharing second place at 12-under with Daniel Conradie and Travis Procter. DP World Tour winner Michael Hollick stayed within striking distance, four shots behind the leader.

The two-time Sunshine Tour winner credited his recent preparations for the impressive turnaround. After taking a break following the winter period, Loubser focused heavily on improving his game over the last month, and he believes that work is now paying dividends.

He plans to stick to his strategy in the final round, concentrating on one shot at a time as he bids to secure another Sunshine Tour title.

With a talented chasing pack still in contention, Friday's final round promises an exciting finish as Loubser attempts to convert his commanding lead into victory while fending off experienced challengers led by Lawrence, Conradie and Procter.
