Harry Brook’s Century Guides England into T20 World Cup Semi-Finals

Posted : 24 February 2026

Harry Brook produced a sensational century under pressure to lead England to a two-wicket victory over Pakistan in Pallekele, securing a spot in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. The England captain promoted himself to number three after Phil Salt was dismissed first ball and expertly guided his team in a chase of 165 runs, finishing on exactly 100.

It was Brook’s first time batting at first drop in his T20 international career, but he handled the responsibility with poise, adjusting his approach as wickets fell around him.

England’s top order struggled, with Jos Buttler out for three in the third over, Jacob Bethell for eight, and Tom Banton for two, leaving the team precariously placed at 58-4.

Despite the pressure, Brook’s innings was flawless, featuring 10 fours and four sixes. He was eventually bowled by Shaheen Afridi just after reaching his first T20 international hundred from 50 deliveries, but by that point, England needed only 10 runs from the remaining three overs.

The finishing moments were tense as wickets of Will Jacks and Jamie Overton brought the game close, but Jofra Archer delivered the winning runs with five balls to spare, ensuring England’s progression.

With this win, England return to India for a semi-final match next week, though opponents and venues will be decided based on the remaining Super 8 stage results.

While England’s campaign has not always been convincing—they were sloppy in the field against Pakistan—they are now the first team to secure a place in the last four. Pakistan will need favorable results and a win against co-host Sri Lanka on Saturday to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
