The Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria has appointed 44 coaches and technical officials across several disciplines as part of its preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The appointments are designed to strengthen Nigeria’s national teams and improve the country’s chances of securing Olympic qualification.
The list was contained in a statement signed by GFN Technical Director Rose Verisimo. The appointments cover Artistic Gymnastics, Aerobic Gymnastics, Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline, Tumbling, Parkour, Acrobatics, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Gymnastics for All.
Isaiah Oni Erhunwunse has been appointed head coach of the senior Men’s Artistic Gymnastics team. Bala Magaji Juwara and Anthony Duilemi will serve as his assistants, while Kennedy Osawaro will lead the junior men with Jimoh Wasiu and Jimoh Azeez.
Helen Albert will head the senior Women’s Artistic Gymnastics team, with Edem Umor Patric and Emmanuel Enejo as assistants. Abosede Olatundun Oladele will lead the junior women, assisted by Deborah Ajiboye and Noel Egbunu.
Aerobic Gymnastics also received separate senior and junior coaching teams. Edina Ahue will lead the senior team alongside David West Tamunuosaki and Jennifer Eke, while Michael Ocheke will head the junior team with Dimeji Aluko and Toyosi Glory Adeyemi as assistants.
In Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling, Dorcas Abel will coach the senior men, assisted by Osamudiamwenam Amennaghawon. Osasu Obasohan will lead the senior women, with Godwin Bamidele and Awokunle Ojo supporting her.
The federation has also made appointments across other gymnastics disciplines. Technical officials include Dr Uwa Anthonia as Safeguard Officer, Mary Ibrahim as Anti-Doping Officer, Rose Verisimo as Technical Director and Otasowie Alexander Erhunwunse as Gymnastics Developmental Director.
GFN President Prince Kelvin Erhunwunse said the coaches were selected based on merit, dedication and their track records. He said the federation wants to build athletes capable of competing for medals at continental and global competitions while qualifying a strong Nigerian contingent for Los Angeles 2028.
Erhunwunse also charged the newly appointed coaches to approach their positions with discipline, professionalism and teamwork. The appointments mark the federation’s formal start of its technical preparations for the 2028 Olympic cycle.
