Grange School underlined its dominance at the third NNPC-SNEPCo Inter-Schools Swimming Competition, emerging overall champion with 418.5 points at Ikoyi Club 1938 over the weekend.

Grange finished comfortably ahead of St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, which accumulated 243.5 points, while IC Marlins secured third position with 207 points.

Temple School placed fourth with 163.5 points, while Corona School completed the top five with 134 points.

The competition brought together 17 schools and more than 280 swimmers, providing a platform for young athletes to demonstrate their abilities while promoting competitive swimming among schoolchildren.

Members of Ikoyi Club 1938 and representatives of the sponsors, NNPC-SNEPCo, witnessed the competition, which featured impressive displays of skill, determination, and sportsmanship.

The company’s Communication Manager, Gladys Afam-Anadu, represented the Managing Director of SNEPCo and commended the strong participation, expressing optimism about the event’s potential to expand swimming development across Nigeria.

She highlighted the importance of initiatives that expose young people to swimming and help identify promising talents for future development.

Babatunde Pearse, Vice Chairman of the club’s Swimming Section, described the competition as an important investment in the future of the sport.

“These are the swimmers of tomorrow, and they have done very well. We are delighted with the turnout and look forward to welcoming even more schools and swimmers next year. With continued support from our sponsors, we hope to expand the competition and reach more young people,” Pearse said.

The Chairman of the Swimming Section, Akinbulejo Onabolu, also praised the standard of competition and the performances of the participating swimmers.

Onabolu reaffirmed the section’s commitment to nurturing emerging talents and creating more opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills through regular competition.

The successful staging of the third edition further reinforced the importance of school-based sporting initiatives in identifying future champions and strengthening the foundation of swimming in Nigeria.
