Posted : 03 January 2024

The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, declared the 2nd Edition of the Inter-Security Agencies Unity Cup Football Tournament, 2023, open at the Lafia City Stadium. The tournament, hosted in his honor, aims to foster a healthy working relationship among various security outfits in the state, build confidence and trust between Security Agencies and the Civilian population, and physically prepare them for their professional duties.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, the Governor expressed his support for the competition and commended Comr. Hamza Ibrahim Moyi, his Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development, for initiating the program. He believes it will contribute to creating a peaceful environment for both indigenes and residents of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, Umar Shehu Nadada, and Assistant Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abbas Bappas Mohammed, thanked the competition's initiator and the Nasarawa State Government for providing an enabling environment for Security Personnel.

In his address, Moyi highlighted Governor Abdullahi Sule's commitment to sports development and a safe Nasarawa State. He emphasized that unity among security agencies would help combat crimes and social vices. Moyi thanked the Governor for approving funds for the tournament and pledged to ensure its success.

During the exhibition match, defending Champions Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES) defeated the Nigerian Army 3-0. Heads of the participating Security Agencies and other dignitaries attended the opening ceremony.

The participating Agencies are divided into two groups, with matches to be played at the Lafia City Stadium. The tournament promises to contribute to mutual relationships between the State Government, sister Agencies, and a prosperous society for all.
