In a heartwarming display of appreciation, Governor Abdullahi Sule has rewarded outstanding athletes and coaches who brought glory to Nasarawa State in various national sports competitions with millions of Naira and personal dollar donations.
The announcement was made during a special reception at the Government House, Lafia. Governor Sule also presented two brand-new 18-seater Hiace buses to the management of the State’s premier football teams—Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons—and extended monetary rewards to their Supporters' Clubs.
In his remarks, the Governor stated:
"Let me congratulate our teams, especially Nasarawa Amazons, for their wonderful performance in both the 2024/25 Nigeria Women's Premier League season and the 2025 President Federation's Cup.
I know we didn’t return home with the FA Cup, but believe me, you came back with all our love.
I also congratulate Nasarawa United FC. Many had lost hope in you, but you proved everyone wrong, escaped relegation against all odds, and finished the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season as one of the best teams in Northern Nigeria."
Governor Sule further praised the management and coaches of both teams for their unity and achievements. He commended athletes, coaches, and referees who excelled at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta and other tournaments.

State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Kwanta Yakubu, who led the sports teams to the Government House, lauded the athletes for their exceptional performances:
"Against expectations, Nasarawa United avoided relegation and even produced the NPFL’s top scorer, Anas Yusuf, with 18 goals.
Nasarawa Amazons finished second in the regular season and claimed silver in the President Federation’s Cup. The team also produced two MVPs: Janet Akekoromowet (NWPFL) and Shobowale Olushola (Federation Cup)."
He added that Team Nasarawa won 18 medals at the National Sports Festival—1 gold, 4 silver, and 13 bronze. The state also saw success in tennis, basketball, hockey, and individual achievements in taekwondo, judo, and wrestling.
Kwanta acknowledged support from philanthropist Mr. Jibril Saidu, who donated jerseys and handballs to the state’s handball team. He also announced that the 2025/26 NPFL Preseason Seminars would be hosted in Nasarawa, a first for the state.

Chairperson of Nasarawa Amazons FC, Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo, in her vote of thanks, praised the Governor's fatherly support, stating that his generosity will motivate athletes to reach greater heights.
