The 2026 BWF World Tour YONEX German Open kicked off on Tuesday at the Westenergie Sporthalle in Mulheim, Germany, marking the first day of action in this Super 300 badminton event.
The tournament, featuring a US $250,000 prize pool, is the fifth stop on the 2026 BWF calendar and attracts top shuttlers from around the world.
Day 1 saw the opening rounds of the Round of 32 across multiple disciplines as players began their campaigns in earnest.
In women’s doubles, pairs including Ashwini Bhat and Shikhat Gautam made their opening appearances against Hsu Yin-Hui and Lin Jhih Yun, setting the tone for a competitive week ahead.
On the men’s doubles court, contests featured established pairs such as Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, as well as Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, each striving to progress through the early rounds.
Day 1 also highlighted some notable withdrawals and changes in the draws prior to play, with several singles and mixed doubles players adjusting the main draw and qualification line-ups in the lead-up to competition.
Among the international interest, two Indonesian women’s doubles pairs — Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti & Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi and Apriyani Rahayu & Lanny Tria Mayasari — took to the court to begin their European tour, with one duo set to face a Danish pairing in their opening match and the other scheduled against qualifiers.
This follows their recent assignments to represent Indonesia on the world stage, supported by national coaching staff.
Although Day 1 focused on opening matches rather than headline finals, the early rounds delivered a showcase of determination as shuttlers across singles and doubles begin their German Open quests.
As the week progresses toward the later rounds, attention will sharpen on seeded players and marquee match-ups shaping the path to the title in each discipline.
