Gary Woodland, Four Others Secure Spots for 2026 Masters After Houston Open

Posted : 31 March 2026

Gary Woodland clinched a spot in the 2026 Masters Tournament on Sunday by winning the Texas Children's Houston Open, marking his first PGA Tour victory since the 2019 US Open. The triumph is especially significant as Woodland is recovering from brain surgery to remove a lesion in September 2023, an experience he said has contributed to his battle with PTSD.

Joining Woodland in Augusta National Golf Club are Denmark’s Nicolai Hojgaard and Americans Daniel Berger, Jake Knapp, and Matt McCarty, all of whom earned Masters spots by finishing in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking following the Houston Open. The tournament served as the cutoff for Augusta, set to take place April 9–12 in Georgia.

Woodland, making his 13th Masters appearance after missing the 2025 tournament, has one top-20 finish at Augusta, tying for 14th in 2023. “Playing my way back in, I know this gets me in the Masters, I know it gets me in the PGA,” Woodland said.

“I’m looking forward to that.” Knapp and McCarty will make their second appearances, with McCarty tied for 14th last year in his debut. Berger will play in his seventh Masters, while Hojgaard makes his third, repeating last year’s historic appearance alongside his twin brother Rasmus as the first twins in Masters history.

One final spot for the 2026 Masters remains available at this week’s Valero Texas Open, provided the winner has not already qualified.
