Posted : 07 December 2025

The Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute of Sports, Surulere, Lagos, erupted in celebration as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) teams — Safety Shooters and Safety Babes — were crowned champions of the 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League.

The victory followed an elaborate finale graced by members of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) board and top executives of Ardova PLC.

The league, which began with the first phase in Benin City months ago and concluded in Lagos, was described as “delightful to watch” by the Executive Chairman of Ardova PLC, Abdulwasiu Sowami, represented by the Deputy Managing Director, Mrs. Abiola Babatunde-Ojo.

For Safety Shooters, it was a historic moment as they clinched the men’s title for the first time since 2020, finishing top of the table with 57 points from 20 matches. Safety Babes also made history by winning an unprecedented fifth consecutive women’s championship, reaffirming their status as the league’s most dominant team, not just in the women’s category, but in the history of the Nigerian Handball Premier League.

In the men’s competition, Safety Shooters finished the season in style, defeating COAS Shooters 43–32 (20–10) on the final day of Phase 2. Their victory ensured they remained clear at the summit with 18 wins, one draw, and one loss, scoring 638 goals and conceding 424, for an impressive goal difference of +214.

Rima Strikers, who challenged the champions throughout the season, ended second with 52 points despite a narrow 27–26 loss to Correction Boys. COAS Shooters finished third with 51 points, closing the campaign with a fourth defeat but maintaining their position among the top sides.

Other final-day results in the men’s league included:

  • De Defenders defeated Osun United 31–23 (13–13).
  • Niger United narrowly lost to Tojemarine Academy 27–28 (11–17).
  • Benue Buffaloes were awarded a walkover win against Adamawa Warriors 10–0.

In the women’s category, Safety Babes made history by sealing their fifth straight crown with a 27–24 (11–14) victory over second-placed Rima Queens. Despite trailing at halftime, the champions displayed resilience and tactical brilliance to secure their sixth Premier League title.

Safety Babes ended the season with 13 wins from 14 matches, amassing 40 points and a goal difference of +128 (486–358), while Rima Queens finished second with 31 points and Omo Ogiefo Academy placed third with 32 points.

Friday’s closing ceremony celebrated not only the league champions but also the growth and increasing professionalism in Nigerian handball. The HFN President, Jibril Saidu Ojih, urged Ardova PLC to continue their partnership with the Federation to nurture top players for national teams. Ardova PLC committed to maintaining collaboration with HFN to further develop the sport through the league.

The presence of HFN board members and Ardova PLC executives added prestige to the event, reinforcing the strong partnership driving the progress of the Ardova Handball Premier League.
