French Cyclist Ronan Auge Placed in Induced Coma After Tour of Langkawi Crash

Posted : 03 October 2026

French cyclist Ronan Auge has been placed in a medically induced coma following a serious crash during stage six of the 2026 Tour of Langkawi in Malaysia. The 22-year-old sustained serious injuries during the UCI ProSeries event and was taken to hospital for treatment.

His team, Unibet Rose Rockets, confirmed that his condition was stable and not life-threatening. The team provided an update following the incident, offering some reassurance about the young rider's immediate medical condition.

The crash occurred during the sixth stage of the eight-stage race, which covered the route between Pandan Indah and Rembau. The incident added to growing concerns about rider safety in professional road cycling, where high speeds, challenging road conditions and close racing can create dangerous situations.

Auge's accident comes amid a difficult period for the sport, following several serious crashes and fatalities in recent seasons. British cyclist Fin Tarling died in August after a collision with a vehicle during the Volta a Portugal, a race on the UCI Europe Tour.

American cyclist Ezra Caudell was also hospitalized in September after suffering multiple serious injuries in a crash at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic. His injuries were described as multi-system trauma.

French cyclist Ronan Auge is recovering under medical supervision after suffering serious injuries in the crash. The 22-year-old is competing in his first professional season with Unibet Rose Rockets and has already recorded a professional stage victory at the 2026 Route d'Occitanie. He also finished fourth in the opening and third stages of the Tour of Langkawi before the incident.

The Tour of Langkawi is an eight-stage UCI ProSeries race held in Malaysia. The 2026 edition began on September 27 and is scheduled to conclude on October 4. The race attracts professional teams from different countries and provides opportunities for riders to compete across varied terrain and challenging stage routes.

Auge's crash has renewed attention on safety in professional road cycling, following several serious incidents in recent seasons. The sport continues to face concerns over rider protection, race conditions and the risks associated with high-speed competition.
