Four Teams Secure Semi-Final Spots in South-South Female Cricket League After Zonal Battles

Posted : 01 May 2026

The semi-final lineup for the 2026 South-South Female Cricket League has been confirmed after a series of high-stakes zonal matches. Defending champions Idia Royals of Edo State, Akwa Ibom’s Smashers, Uniport Pathfinders of Port Harcourt, and Delta Force all secured their places in the knockout stage. These teams emerged as the top performers from a competitive field of nine clubs that battled across venues in Edo and Rivers States.

The tournament features several prominent teams from the region, including Adolor Amazons, Emotan Queens, and Ekpoma Supernova from Edo State. Other participants included Rangers Cricket Club and Dragons Cricket Club. The competition has served as a key return to domestic action for many national team stars. Several members of the "Female Yellow Greens" joined their respective clubs immediately after leading Nigeria to victory at the 2026 NCF T20I tournament.

Uyi Akpata, the President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation and Chairman of the Edo State Cricket Association, remains the primary sponsor of the initiative. Since its inception in 2021, the league has held the distinction of being Nigeria's first dedicated women's cricket league. Akpata noted that the league is vital for providing a consistent competitive platform for female athletes. He emphasized that achieving gender balance is a core goal for the federation’s long-term development strategy.

The upcoming semi-final fixtures are scheduled to take place this weekend. These matches will determine which two teams advance to the grand finale to compete for the regional title. Coaches have praised the level of play seen during the group stages, noting a significant improvement in tactical discipline among the younger players. The presence of international stars has further elevated the quality of the matches.

Organizers expect a large turnout of fans for the knockout games in Benin City. The league continues to be a cornerstone of the NCF’s busy calendar for the year. It provides essential match practice ahead of various upcoming local and international engagements for the senior and national women’s teams. The winning team will not only claim the trophy but also solidify their status as the premier female cricket club in the South-South zone.
