Filippo Ganna Crushes Giro d’Italia Stage 10 Time Trial with Dominant Near-Two-Minute Victory

Posted : 20 May 2026

Filippo Ganna delivered a commanding performance in Stage 10 of the Giro d’Italia, powering to victory in the individual time trial with a winning margin approaching two minutes. The Italian rider, representing the Ineos Grenadiers team, produced one of the most dominant displays of the race so far.

Ganna finished well ahead of his teammates, with Thymen Arensman of the Netherlands taking second place, 1 minute and 54 seconds behind. France’s Rémi Cavagna secured third, a further five seconds back, as the long 42-kilometre course created significant time gaps across the field.

The stage proved particularly challenging for overall contenders. Jonas Vingegaard, one of the pre-race favourites for the general classification, could only manage 13th place, losing three minutes to Ganna. Despite the setback, the Danish rider remains firmly in contention for the pink jersey, sitting second overall, just 27 seconds behind the leader.

Portugal’s Afonso Eulálio retained the race lead after a difficult day but saw his advantage reduced, finishing far down the stage standings. Arensman’s strong ride moved him into third overall, further tightening the battle at the top of the general classification.

The 42km route, the longest time trial in a Grand Tour for more than a decade, created major separation between riders. Many competitors struggled in the demanding effort, with fatigue evident as they crossed the finish line.

Ganna, a former world time trial champion, averaged an impressive speed of nearly 55 km/h in a performance that confirmed his status as the overwhelming favourite for the stage. His team recently announced a new sponsorship agreement, strengthening their financial backing and reinforcing their return to prominence in professional cycling.

After the win, Ganna credited his team’s preparation and acknowledged the difficulty of the effort, noting that both he and several riders were pushed to their physical limits. With nearly two weeks of racing still ahead, he emphasized the importance of recovery and continued focus as the Giro enters its decisive phase.
