A total of nine teams participated: five male and four female squads, in an event that celebrated grassroots volleyball and community spirit. Among the clubs in action were Apo Spikers, All Stars Volleyball Club, De Friends Volleyball Club, Games Village Volleyball Club, and Kuje United Volleyball Club.
The event served not only as a platform for competitive play but also as a vital opportunity for networking, fitness promotion, and youth engagement.
One of the participants, volleyballer and sports enthusiast Amina Abdulmalik, highlighted the importance of such community-focused events.
“This is a mini tournament meant to bring players together, especially young and upcoming ones,” she said. “It’s about building the spirit of sportsmanship, bonding, and enjoying the game, whether for leisure, youth development, or health.”
Abdulmalik emphasized how activities like this help bridge gaps between fitness, community bonding, and youth development.
“Sometimes, we forget that sports isn’t just for competition, it’s a lifestyle, and events like these remind us of that.”
The well-attended tournament attracted various stakeholders from the local volleyball scene, fostering discussions around sports development, volunteerism, and recreational opportunities within the FCT.
With increased interest and participation, organizers hope to make the tournament a more frequent feature on Abuja’s local sports calendar, helping to nurture volleyball talents and promote healthy lifestyles in the capital city.
