Europe Reclaim Solheim Cup as Lottie Woad Sparks Victory Over USA

Team Europe reclaimed the Solheim Cup after producing a commanding display in Sunday’s singles to defeat the United States 15–13 at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands. The Europeans entered the final day level at 8–8 but pulled away in the decisive matches to regain the trophy.

Lottie Woad played a starring role in the victory, sinking the crucial putt on the 17th hole against fellow rookie Auston Kim. The result gave Europe the 14th point it needed to make victory certain and sparked emotional celebrations among the European players and supporters.

The 22-year-old had endured a difficult opening two days alongside Charley Hull, with the pair failing to win any of their four matches before the singles. However, Woad produced a composed performance when Europe needed her most, securing a 2&1 victory over Kim.

Europe made an impressive start to the singles after the two sides had finished Saturday tied at 8–8. Hull led the charge, overcoming a frustrating opening two days to beat Megan Khang 3&2 and give the Europeans an early boost.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda responded for the United States by defeating Leona Maguire to put a point on the board, while Alison Lee also staged a remarkable comeback against Esther Henseleit. Lee recovered from four holes down at the turn to win 1-up, but the American fightback was not enough to prevent Europe from taking control of the contest.

With Woad securing the 14th point, Carlota Ciganda then completed the victory by defeating Jennifer Kupcho 4&2. Ciganda's success confirmed Europe’s 15–13 triumph and gave captain Anna Nordqvist a memorable victory in her first Solheim Cup as captain.

The United States had been hoping to retain the trophy on European soil for the first time since 2015, but Europe’s strong singles performance ended those hopes. The result also marked Europe’s fourth victory in the last five editions of the competition.

The next Solheim Cup will be held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, where the United States will look to reclaim the trophy on home soil.
