Enugu 2026: NSC, Organisers to Inspect Sports Festival Venues Ahead of November Games

Posted : 26 October 2026

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2026 National Sports Festival will begin a joint technical meeting and venue inspection exercise in Enugu on Tuesday, October 27. The exercise is aimed at assessing the host state's readiness for the competition, tagged the Coal City Games Enugu 2026.

The festival is scheduled to run from November 27 to December 11, 2026. The NSC said the exercise would bring together key stakeholders to review technical arrangements, assess designated facilities and address potential challenges before the opening of the Games.

The NSC delegation will be led by its Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and Director-General, Bukola Olopade. They will meet with the Enugu State LOC, led by the state's Commissioner for Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu.

The inspection will focus on the readiness of venues and other facilities designated for the national sporting event. Officials will also review operational requirements and identify areas that may need attention before athletes and teams arrive for the festival.

According to the schedule released by the NSC, Tuesday, October 27, is set aside for the arrival of participants. Venue and facility inspections are scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, while the joint technical meeting and further inspections will continue on Thursday, October 29. Departures are scheduled for Friday, October 30.

Expected participants include members of the Main Organising Committee, secretaries and technical directors of national sports federations, zonal coordinators, state directors of sports and media representatives.

The involvement of technical directors and federation officials is expected to help address sport-specific requirements. Their participation will also provide an opportunity to review competition facilities and identify issues that could affect the smooth running of events.

The NSC described the exercise as an important part of preparations for the festival. It said effective coordination between the commission, the host state and other stakeholders would be essential to delivering a successful competition.

Enugu State is preparing to welcome athletes from across Nigeria for the multi-sport event. The festival will provide a platform for competitors to demonstrate their abilities, while also giving sports administrators an opportunity to assess talent across the country.

The Coal City Games are expected to contribute to grassroots sports development and strengthen competition among states. The festival also offers athletes an opportunity to gain experience and attract attention from national selectors ahead of future competitions.

With just over a month remaining before the scheduled opening, the joint technical meeting and venue inspections will serve as an important assessment of Enugu's preparations. The findings are expected to guide further work by the NSC and the LOC as they move towards the November 27 opening date.
