England Under-19s Poised for Deep World Cup Run After Consecutive Wins

Posted : 19 January 2026

England’s Under-19 men’s cricket team has started their ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 campaign in impressive fashion, recording back-to-back victories to build momentum for the tournament.

Following a 37-run win against Pakistan in their opening match, the team carried their strong form into a dominant eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe. These results have placed England in a strong position at the top of Group C, setting the stage for their upcoming clash with Scotland.

In the game against Zimbabwe, England’s bowlers were tested against a resilient middle order, but they responded effectively to restrict the hosts to 208 runs.

Manny Lumsden was the standout with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets to break key partnerships and maintain pressure throughout Zimbabwe’s innings. England’s bowlers were praised for their disciplined approach, consistently targeting the stumps and keeping Zimbabwe under control.

Chasing the total, England’s batting unit displayed both aggression and composure. Captain Thomas Rew played a fiery unbeaten knock of 86 off 66 deliveries, forming an unbroken 167-run partnership with Ben Mayes, who contributed a stylish 77 not out. The pair’s performance allowed England to reach the target

in just 28 overs, reflecting both their confidence and attacking mindset. Rew credited the strategy of rotating strike and targeting short boundaries, which helped keep the scoring pressure on the opposition.

After the victory, Rew praised the team’s overall effort, highlighting the bowlers’ fight and the batters’ ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. He noted that the team is focused on taking each game at a time while aiming for the top of the group, with the upcoming match against Scotland expected to be another test of their form and resolve.

England’s strong start, with balanced performances from both batters and bowlers, positions them as serious contenders in the tournament. With momentum on their side, they head into the Super Six stage aiming to maintain consistency and build on their early successes.
