Posted : 07 September 2025

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has praised Team Edo for their resilience and strong performance at the 9th National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta State. He made the remarks during the closing ceremony of the Games.

Team Edo finished third overall, collecting a total of 79 medals — 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze. The contingent had a strong start, claiming nine golds in weightlifting and six golds in gymnastics, which made them early leaders in the competition before Lagos and Delta State overtook them in the medal race.

Lagos State emerged as overall champions with 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze medals, while hosts Delta State surged to second place on the final day with 37 gold, 38 silver, and 39 bronze.

Enabulele commended the young athletes, saying, “Aside from finishing third overall, I am impressed with the performance of our kids. They made us proud and demonstrated that Edo remains a powerhouse in Nigerian sports. This performance shows we have a bright future with them.”

The 2025 National Youth Games concluded with a thrilling finale of relay events, including the 4x100m, 4x400m, and medley relays. The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, alongside Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, officially declared the Games closed.
