Africa’s premier mixed martial arts promotion, African Knockout (AKO), is preparing to showcase 18 elite fighters at its upcoming African Knockout Championship 9 on June 13, 2025, at The Pistis Conference Centre in Lekki, Lagos.
Founded in 2020 and backed by UFC legend Kamaru Usman, AKO has built a reputation for unearthing top-tier combat talent from across the continent. It evolved from its initial reality-show roots into a fully-fledged MMA organization recognized for professional-grade events under Unified Rules.
The upcoming event marks the continuation of its continental championship series, which launched in 2023. Featuring fighters from multiple African nations, the promotion highlights the region’s growing influence in the global MMA arena .
AKO chief operating officer Rayan Fayad expressed confidence ahead of the event: “AKC 9 will once again underline Africa’s commitment to developing MMA talent and delivering world-class fight nights.”
Expectations are high, with fans anticipating explosive matchups across lightweight, featherweight, middleweight, and bantamweight divisions. While the full fight card has not yet been released, the announcement of 18 competitors has already drawn significant excitement among MMA followers.
The Pistis Conference Centre, located in Lagos State’s vibrant Lekki district, is being transformed into a dedicated fight venue, aiming to offer a live atmosphere on par with global MMA promotions.
