Eight African male table tennis players have secured qualification for the 2027 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Championships Finals in Astana, Kazakhstan, following the continental championships in Tangier, Morocco.
The qualification tournament took place during the 2026 ITTF-Africa Championships, which ran from October 18 to 25. The competition gave players across the continent an opportunity to compete for African honours and places at the global championship.
Egypt leads the list of qualified players with five representatives: Youssef Abdelaziz, Mohamed Elbeiali, Mahmoud Helmy, Omar Assar and Badri Mostafa.
Tunisia's Wassim Essid, Algeria's Stephane Ouiche and Benin's Abdel-Kader Salifou complete the list of eight players confirmed in the report.
The qualifiers will compete against leading players from other regions at the World Championships Finals. Their participation will give Africa an opportunity to demonstrate its strength against some of the world's best table tennis players.
Egypt's strong representation follows an impressive campaign in Tangier. Abdelaziz emerged as the men's singles champion after defeating compatriot Omar Assar 4-1 in the final. The victory also ended Assar's four-year unbeaten run at the African Championships.
Abdelaziz further strengthened his position by winning the men's doubles title alongside Elbeiali. The Egyptian pair defeated Congo's Saheed Idowu and Algeria's Sami Kherouf 3-0 in the final.
The results underlined Egypt's dominance at the continental tournament and reinforced its position among Africa's leading table tennis nations.
The 2027 World Championships Finals will take place in Astana from May 22 to 30. The competition will bring together players from across the world to contest the sport's premier individual and doubles honours.
With one additional African qualification place reportedly still available, attention will remain on the process for determining the continent's final representative. The remaining spot would complete the group identified in the qualification report.
The tournament also represents an opportunity for African players to gain valuable experience against international opposition and improve the continent's visibility on the global table tennis stage.
