Edo Shot Putter, Shakamomodu Sets Sights on U-20 Championship

Posted : 24 February 2026

Edo State’s rising athletic star, Emmanuel Audu Shakamomodu, has added another medal to his impressive tally, securing a second gold for Team Edo at the 2nd Niger Delta Games, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

It was a day to remember for the young shot put and hammer throw specialist as he once again demonstrated his vital role as the cornerstone of Team Edo’s youth athletics squad, clinching gold with a remarkable performance in the shot put event.

Despite his victory, Shakamomodu expressed dissatisfaction with his throws, citing room for improvement.

“It was okay, but I know I could have done better. There’s always room for improvement,” Shakamomodu reflected. “I feel like I slacked off a bit, but that’s something I can work on. I just need to focus on refining my technique and come back stronger.”

Looking ahead, Shakamomodu has set his sights firmly on the World U-20 Championship in Oregon. With international glory in his sights, he is determined to prepare even harder for the competition.

“My focus now is the World U-20 Championship in Oregon,” Shakamomodu said. “The goal is to get back into training, push myself, and perfect my technique. The qualifying distance is 18.30 meters, but I know I’m capable of reaching even greater distances. I just need to keep working on it and come back better.”

He called on Nigerian sports enthusiasts and stakeholders to continue supporting him, promising that his journey to success is just beginning.

“Sports fans should expect the best from me. I’m determined to do great things,” he said confidently.

Shakamomodu also spoke about the inspiration he draws from his name, Emmanuel, which he believes provides him with strength and motivation whenever he represents Edo State.

“We all know that ‘Emmanuel’ means ‘God is with us,’” he explained. “Whenever I step out, I carry that with me. Knowing that God is by my side gives me the belief that anything is possible. With His presence, I know I can achieve great things.”

In addition to his shot put victory, Shakamomodu also secured gold in the hammer throw event with a throw of 41.57 meters. Although he aimed for a greater distance, he remains grateful for his success.

“It was a bit challenging,” Shakamomodu admitted. “I wanted to throw beyond 41.57 meters, but it didn’t quite happen. However, I’m thankful that history repeated itself, and I came out on top.”

With his sights set on even bigger achievements, Emmanuel Audu Shakamomodu continues to shine as a beacon of talent, determination, and faith in the world of athletics.
