Dolphin Swimming League Set for Season 8 as 23 Schools and Clubs Join

The Dolphin Swimming League is set to begin its eighth season on Saturday at Grange School, Ikeja, with 23 schools and clubs confirmed for the latest edition of Nigeria’s inter-school swimming competition.

The league began in 2018 with five schools and has since expanded into a major platform for developing young swimmers. This season also marks the first time a team from Abuja will join the competition.

Among the confirmed participants are Grange School, Lagos Preparatory Secondary School, Damswimm Club, Temple School, St. Saviour’s School, Makosail Swimming Academy, Foreshore School Ikoyi, Greensprings School Lagos, Whitesands School and Corona Schools.

Other participants include AQUA Sports World Academy, The Learning Place, Lagoon School, Boken Aquatics Club, Children International School, C-Tribe Club, Greenwood School Ikoyi, Swimfinity Club Abuja, James Hope College, Meadow Hall, Atlantic Hall, British International School, Riverbank School and Rugby School Nigeria.

The competition is organised by Dynaspro Promotions Limited in collaboration with Advanta Interactive Limited. It is sanctioned by the Nigeria Aquatic Federation, the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the Lagos State Swimming Association.

The league has also played an important role in developing swimmers who later represented Nigeria at regional and continental competitions. Its organisers see the competition as a pathway for identifying and nurturing young aquatic talent.

Season 8 will feature separate elementary and secondary school divisions to promote fairer competition. The opening weekend will focus on elementary swimmers, with more than 30 events scheduled.

Technical standards have also been strengthened ahead of the new season. An orientation clinic was held at Rowe Park, Yaba, where coaches, officials and other stakeholders received training on updated World Aquatics regulations.

The organisers will introduce cameras to monitor races, while assisted timing devices will help reduce human error. The measures are designed to improve officiating and bring the competition closer to international standards.

Dolphin Swimming League coordinator Oluseyi Oyebode said regular improvements were important to the league's development. He also disclosed plans to expand the competition beyond Lagos, with Abuja and the South West identified as potential future locations.

Last year's long-course event in Lagos, organised in partnership with the Lagos State Sports Commission, demonstrated the potential for further expansion. Season 8 will build on that progress with a larger field and enhanced technical standards.
