The organisers of the Dolphin Swimming League have reaffirmed their commitment to developing more swimmers for Nigeria’s junior national teams as preparations intensify for the Season Seven award ceremony scheduled for May 30 in Lagos.
The annual event, billed to hold at St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, will recognise exceptional swimmers, schools, and stakeholders who distinguished themselves during the just-concluded season.
Tournament Coordinator, Oluseyi Oyebode, said the league had experienced tremendous growth since its establishment, expanding from fewer than five participating schools to over 20 schools in the latest edition.
According to him, the competition has become an important platform for talent discovery and athlete development across Lagos and Ogun states, with several swimmers progressing to represent Nigeria at junior international competitions within and outside Africa.
Oyebode noted that the long-term vision of the organisers remains producing athletes capable of competing at the Olympic Games.
“We are excited that what we started a few years ago has begun to yield positive results. Some of the league’s products are now representing Nigeria internationally, and our ultimate target has always been to produce Olympians,” he said.
He added that the increasing number of participating schools reflects the growing popularity and acceptance of swimming as a competitive sport among young athletes.
The coordinator disclosed that the competition operates under the sanction of the Nigeria Aquatic Federation, the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and the Nigeria School Sport Federation.
The event is organised by Dynaspro Sports Promotion in partnership with Advanta Interactive Ltd., with technical backing from the Lagos State Swimming Association.
Oyebode also highlighted the introduction of separate categories for elementary and secondary schools, saying the structure had improved organisation and enhanced athlete development.
He further praised parents and guardians for their unwavering support, describing them as key contributors to the success of the league.
The coordinator equally commended Rite Foods for sustaining its sponsorship support towards grassroots swimming development in Nigeria.
The award ceremony is expected to attract swimmers, school administrators, parents, and major sports stakeholders from across the country.
The upcoming Season Seven award ceremony marks a significant milestone in the ongoing expansion of grassroots swimming in the region. By honoring the achievements of dedicated athletes and supportive partners, the event reinforces a collective vision toward international competitive success. The continued institutional and corporate backing will play a vital role as the league nurtures the next generation of Nigerian Olympic swimmers.
