Dodgers slash price of limited edition Shohei Ohtani souvenir cup following fan backlash

Posted : 31 March 2026

The Los Angeles Dodgers have adjusted the pricing for a high-end souvenir cup modeled after superstar Shohei Ohtani’s jersey. Originally debuted during the opening series against the Arizona Diamondbacks for $74.99, the collectible now costs $68.99 at Dodger Stadium. This change follows significant social media backlash regarding the high cost of the plastic souvenir.

Beyond the price drop, the team also clarified a confusing refill policy that initially frustrated many attendees. Early reports suggested that the free fountain soda refills included with the purchase were only valid on the day of the game. However, Dodger Stadium Hospitality recently confirmed that fans who buy the cup can receive free refills for the entire 2026 season.

The cup features a detailed 3D design of Ohtani’s home white jersey, including his name and number 17 in textured plastic. Despite the high price at the stadium, the items have already sparked a massive secondary market. On resale platforms like eBay, the limited edition cups are being listed for prices ranging from $185 to over $330.

Financially, the $68.99 investment may actually benefit frequent stadium visitors. With standard fountain drinks priced at approximately $11.99 this season, a fan would only need six refills to break even on the cost of the cup. This makes the item particularly appealing to season ticket holders who attend the majority of the team's 81 home games.

The timing of the promotion coincides with Ohtani’s highly anticipated first pitching start of the season. The Dodgers entered a series against the Cleveland Guardians this week, following a successful season-opening sweep of the Diamondbacks. While the Dodgers suffered their first loss of the season in the series opener against Cleveland, Ohtani’s marketability remains at an all-time high.

Stadium officials declined to comment on how many cups were produced or if more will be released later in the year. For now, the item remains a "limited edition" piece available at select concession stands on various levels of the stadium. Fans are encouraged to bring their empty cups back to future games to take advantage of the season-long refill offer.
