Dimkpa Calls for Unity to Revive Nigerian Karate

Newly elected Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) President Chukwudi Dimkpa has called on stakeholders to unite behind the federation's leadership as efforts begin to rebuild and reposition karate in the country.

Dimkpa made the appeal while unveiling his roadmap for the federation, outlining key priorities aimed at restoring unity, improving athlete development and raising Nigeria's profile in international karate.

One of his immediate objectives is to convene the first meeting of the new KFN board to establish the federation's strategic direction. He also pledged to engage all stakeholders in a bid to reunite the Nigerian karate community after years of internal divisions.

The KFN president said preparations for upcoming international competitions would begin immediately. Nigeria is expected to participate in the Japanese Ambassadors Cup, the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK) Championships and other global events as part of efforts to give athletes more competitive opportunities.

Dimkpa also announced plans to establish a structured athlete development pathway that will identify and nurture talents from the grassroots level through to elite competition. He believes such a system is essential for sustaining Nigeria's success on the continental and international stage.

Coach and official development also forms a key part of his administration's agenda. He promised continuous education and certification programmes for coaches, referees and technical officials to ensure they meet international standards.

The new federation boss stressed the importance of working closely with the National Sports Commission, the Union of African Karate Federations, the World Karate Federation, state associations and development partners to accelerate the sport's growth across the country.

Dimkpa further pledged to promote transparency, accountability and sound corporate governance in the administration of the federation. He said expanding sponsorship opportunities and strategic partnerships would improve funding, athlete welfare and sports infrastructure.

According to him, the long-term success of Nigerian karate should not be measured only by medals but also by the strength of its institutions and the opportunities created for young athletes.

"Our athletes deserve a united Federation. Our coaches deserve an enabling environment. Our officials deserve the support to perform effectively. Above all, Nigeria deserves a Karate Federation that reflects the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and excellence," Dimkpa said.

He urged members of the karate community to put past disagreements behind them and work together in an atmosphere of unity, respect and shared commitment as the federation begins a new chapter.
