Demi Vollering Wins Thrilling Stage 5 as Tour de France Femmes Title Race Heats Up

Demi Vollering produced a commanding display to win Stage 5 of the 2026 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, delivering a decisive performance on the demanding 140km route from Mâcon to Belleville-en-Beaujolais.

The Dutch rider launched a bold solo attack with 31 kilometres remaining, breaking apart the leading contenders and putting defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot under pressure, ultimately ending her hopes of remaining in the overall title fight.

On the final climb, Vollering increased the intensity with a series of accelerations that only race leader Marlen Reusser and former Tour champion Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney could match. The trio stayed together until the finish, where Vollering proved strongest in the sprint to secure her fourth career Tour de France Femmes stage victory.

Although she finished second on the stage, Reusser successfully defended the yellow jersey and remains at the top of the general classification. She now leads Vollering by 12 seconds, while Niewiadoma-Phinney sits third, 1 minute and 17 seconds behind. Canyon//SRAM rider Antonia Niedermaier moved into the white jersey as the race's best young rider and climbed to fourth overall, 2 minutes and 40 seconds off the lead.

With the general classification battle tightening, attention now turns to another challenging stage between Montbrison and Tournon-sur-Rhône, where the leading contenders are expected to continue their fight for the yellow jersey.
