Delta State to Host 10th National Youth Games, Confirms Governor Oborevwori

Posted : 07 September 2025

Delta State Governor, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced the state’s readiness to host the 10th edition of the National Youth Games. He made the declaration during the closing ceremony of the 9th edition at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, emphasizing the state’s commitment to youth development and sports excellence.

In the just-concluded Games, Lagos State emerged as overall champions for the first time, collecting a total of 110 medals, including 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze. Delta State finished second with 114 medals — 37 gold, 38 silver, and 39 bronze — while Edo State claimed third place with 79 medals, consisting of 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze.

Delta State has been a consistent host of the Games, having organized the 7th, 8th, and 9th editions since 2023. The national youth festival was first held in 2013 at the Federal Capital Territory and later moved to Kwara State, where the University of Ilorin hosted five editions between 2016 and 2021.

A Memorandum of Understanding signed with the defunct Federal Ministry of Sports Development ensures Delta will continue as host for four more years, culminating in the 10th edition.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the importance of the Games in nurturing young talent, fostering national unity, and building a strong foundation for Nigeria’s future sporting champions.
