Host state Delta, alongside Abia and Niger, have secured spots in the handball finals at the ongoing 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, following thrilling semi-final action on Day 5. Lagos and Adamawa will compete for third place in their respective categories.
In the female category, Delta delivered a nail-biting performance against Ondo, eking out a 12-11 victory. Despite trailing 4-6 at halftime, the hosts staged a strong comeback in the second half to book a place in the gold medal match. Abia, meanwhile, dominated their semi-final clash with Lagos, cruising to a 24-12 win after establishing a commanding 13-5 lead at halftime. This sets up an exciting final between Delta and Abia.
The male semi-finals also offered intense competition. Delta’s boys, energized by home support, defeated Lagos 24-19. After a narrow 9-7 lead at halftime, they pulled away in the second half to secure their final berth. In the other semi-final, Niger displayed clinical efficiency, overcoming Adamawa 30-20 with a 15-9 halftime advantage, ensuring a showdown with Delta in the gold medal match.
