Cowrie RFC Claim Racing 10s Crown as Lagos Hosts Rugby Talent Showcase

Cowrie Rugby Football Club emerged champions of the men’s category at the 2026 Racing 10s Rugby Tournament, held at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Cowrie RFC defeated a competitive field to secure the top prize at the annual tournament organised by Racing Rugby Football Club, which brought together established clubs and emerging players in a celebration of Nigerian rugby.

Racing RFC finished as runners-up in the men’s competition, while Ibudo Academy completed the podium in third position.

In the women’s category, Ibudo Academy produced an impressive campaign to claim the championship, with Golden Shark RFC finishing second and AJ Sharks RFC taking third place.

Beyond the senior competitions, the tournament provided a platform for young players to gain competitive experience, with four academies participating in the junior event.

Racing Academy featured teams in the U-13 and U-15 categories, while Golden Sharks Academy competed in the U-15 category. Ibudo Academy fielded U-13 and U-15 teams, with Wolverine Academy also represented in both age groups.

The organisers also rewarded outstanding individual performances, with Okore Chisom Victoria of Golden Shark RFC named the Women’s Most Valuable Player and Oguntominiyi Temidayo Kingsley of Racing RFC receiving the Men’s Most Valuable Player award.

The successful tournament further highlighted the growing depth of rugby talent in Nigeria, particularly at the grassroots level, while providing players with an important competitive platform to develop their skills.

With the inclusion of junior categories alongside the senior competitions, the Racing 10s continues to contribute to talent identification and the development of a stronger pipeline for the future of Nigerian rugby.

The tournament once again demonstrated the importance of sustained grassroots competitions in nurturing future stars, as clubs and academies continue to invest in the growth of rugby across Nigeria.
