Coal City Games: NSC, Enugu intensify preparations as MOC plans facility inspection

Preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged “Coal City Games, Enugu 2026,” will enter a crucial phase as the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the National Sports Commission (NSC) moves to inspect key facilities and infrastructure in Enugu State.

The MOC delegation is scheduled to arrive in Enugu on Aug. 25, with the inspection of competition and training venues and other critical facilities planned for Aug. 26 and 27.

The exercise will precede the unveiling of the official logo and mascot of the Coal City Games by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) on Aug. 28.

The inspection is expected to give the MOC and LOC an opportunity to obtain an updated assessment of preparations and ensure that facilities and services meet the requirements for hosting Nigeria’s premier multi-sport event.

Areas to be assessed include competition and training venues, accommodation, transportation and logistics, supporting infrastructure and other operational arrangements required for the successful hosting of the festival.

The exercise will also enable both committees to identify areas requiring further attention and agree on measures to address any outstanding issues ahead of the Games.

Director-General of the NSC and Chairman of the MOC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, will lead the Commission’s delegation to Enugu for the inspection.

The planned visit is part of the NSC’s ongoing collaboration with the Enugu State Government to ensure that preparations remain on schedule and that the state is adequately equipped to host athletes and officials from across the country.

The inspection, coming ahead of the logo and mascot unveiling, is expected to provide fresh momentum to preparations as the Coal City Games gradually takes shape.

The NSC expressed confidence that the joint efforts of the MOC and LOC would deliver a successful festival while ensuring that the facilities and organisational standards reflect the quality expected of Nigeria’s flagship national sporting event.
