Preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged Coal City Games 2026, are gathering momentum as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) prepares to inaugurate its various sub-committees in Enugu.
The inauguration, scheduled for 5 p.m. at Best Western Hotel, Enugu, is expected to strengthen operational coordination as the state moves closer to hosting the national sporting event.
LOC Secretary, Bamiduro Olumide, said the exercise formed part of the final preparations aimed at ensuring effective planning and seamless delivery of the festival.
The sub-committees, whose membership was announced last month, have been assigned specific responsibilities covering different aspects of the organisation and administration of the Games.
The development follows a recent inspection of sporting venues and facilities by officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC), the LOC and the Enugu State Government.
The inspection assessed the readiness of competition venues, athletes' accommodation and other essential infrastructure ahead of the arrival of participating contingents.
The Coal City Games will hold in Enugu from Nov. 27 to Dec. 15, with the Games Village scheduled to open on Nov. 25.
The festival is expected to attract thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, technical personnel and other stakeholders from across the country.
With the inauguration of the sub-committees, attention will increasingly focus on critical operational areas, including accommodation, transportation, security, medical services, venue management, logistics and media operations.
The LOC and NSC have reiterated the importance of detailed planning and effective collaboration to ensure that Enugu delivers a successful edition of the National Sports Festival.
The inauguration is expected to provide an additional organisational framework for addressing outstanding responsibilities as the state prepares to welcome Nigeria's sporting community.
