Chile's Cristobal del Solar makes Golf history with record-breaking 57 in Korn Ferry Tour

Posted : 09 February 2024

In a groundbreaking performance, Chile's Cristobal del Solar etched his name in golf history by carding the lowest round ever recorded in a US PGA Tour-sanctioned event. The 30-year-old golfer showcased his prowess during the opening round of the Astara Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour, a developmental stage just below the PGA Tour.

Del Solar's exceptional round of 13-under par 57 at the Bogota's Country Club de Bogotá-Pacos not only secured his lead but also marked a historic moment in the world of golf.

Del Solar's stellar round included an impressive nine birdies and two eagles, underscoring his remarkable precision and skill on the 6,254-yard course. Reflecting on his performance, he admitted to the surreal nature of the experience, stating, "Everything just kept happening. Everything just clicked." His front nine was particularly noteworthy, matching the low nine-hole score in Korn Ferry history with an eight-under 27, featuring birdies, consecutive birdie streaks, and a closing eagle on the par-4 ninth.

The Chilean golfer's record-breaking feat surpassed the previous mark of 58 shared by Jim Furyk in the 2016 PGA Tour Travelers Championship and Germany's Stephan Jaeger in a 2016 Korn Ferry event. Del Solar acknowledged the favorable course setup, emphasizing the conducive conditions for achieving a remarkably low score.

His back nine continued the display of excellence with a birdie on the opening hole, an eagle on the par-5 12th, and additional birdies at the 14th and 15th holes, emphasizing his unwavering desire to continue making birdies throughout the round.
