The 2026 Honda LPGA Thailand got off to a thrilling start on Thursday at the Siam Country Club Old Course in Pattaya, Thailand, as local favorite Chanettee Wannasaen and Japan’s Nasa Hataoka fired brilliant opening rounds to share the first-round lead. Both players finished at 7-under-par, carding 65s that put them atop a competitive leaderboard early in the tournament.
Wannasaen thrilled the home crowd with a spectacular performance, recording nine birdies against two bogeys and finishing strong with a birdie on the par-5 18th. The 21-year-old Thai golfer was in superb form throughout the day, hitting 17 of 18 greens in regulation and showcasing sharp approach play and confident putting in front of supportive fans.
Joining her at the top, Hataoka also impressed with a steady 7-under round, making key birdies in the latter stages to match Wannasaen’s score and share the spotlight early in the week.
Just a stroke behind, several contenders sit poised to challenge over the weekend. South Korea’s Choi Hyejin posted a solid 6-under-par 66, while others such as Somi Lee and Gemma Dryburgh also carded early low rounds to stay within striking distance heading into Friday’s second round.
With favorable scoring conditions and plenty of talent clustered near the top, Day 1 set the stage for an exciting tournament as the world’s best women golfers continue their battle for the $1.8 million prize purse and early momentum in the 2026 LPGA season.
