CCC League Secures Sterling Bank Partnership Ahead of 2025/2026 Season

Posted : 17 November 2025

Endurance Ofem, Chairman of the Club Cricket Committee (CCC), announced that the league has secured a major partnership with Sterling Bank for the 2025/2026 season.

Ofem said the collaboration marks a significant boost for Nigerian cricket as the league continues to nurture talent nationwide. He noted that the league survived last season’s sponsorship challenges through support from the Sengho Family Foundation, PET Foundation, the NCF, and UNILAG Alumni.

Now in its 39th year, the league has grown from four clubs to 22 teams, with further expansion planned. This season features two divisions: a nine-team Premier League with foreign players and Division One, split into Leagues A and B.

The Premier League’s top six teams will contest a Super Six, while the bottom two face relegation. Division One’s leaders will play in a Super Four. Sterling Bank and Tata International will support live streaming, allowing fans worldwide to follow Premier League matches.

Ofem praised the Board of Trustees, including former chairman Charles Omoera, for sustaining the league over the years. He expressed confidence in his team and commitment to delivering a season that will make everyone proud.

He also announced plans to introduce a 50-over tournament alongside preparations for the new season, noting that scheduling must be carefully managed alongside the T20 calendar. The Premier Division currently has nine teams, while Division One features 14 teams split between League A and League B. Rising Stars Cricket Club are the defending champions after winning last season’s Super Six competition.

Full fixtures and club details will be released after the media briefing in Lagos. Matches will take place at TBS, the UNILAG Oval, and CMS Grammar School. Division One matches will be shared between UNILAG and CMS, while Premier Division fixtures will be played at TBS and the UNILAG Oval. The season is expected to feature around 120 matches, including 50-over games and 99 T20 fixtures across five months, taking place every weekend.

Ofem noted that Lagos cricket stakeholders have already formed women’s teams, with plans to introduce a Women’s League. A planned schools league for boys and girls will create a strong foundation for female participation.

The board reaffirmed its partnership with Lagos State and the national education system. Engagements with the Lagos State Sports Council continue, with its Director of Sports expected at the CCC event on Nov. 22. Government support has included coaching seminars, school outreach, and potential improvements to playing facilities.

Sterling Bank’s Chief Marketing Officer, Donatus Okpako, described the partnership as a defining moment for cricket in Nigeria. He highlighted the sport’s history since 1904 and praised CCC, founded in 1987, as a strong pillar of cricket development with 22 teams and more than 500 players. Many CCC players have represented Nigeria in major World Cup events over the past decade.

Okpako said the partnership will strengthen visibility, participation, talent development, and the broader cricket ecosystem. Sterling Bank will amplify cricket across media, support youth programmes, and enhance facilities and fan experience. The bank sees cricket’s values—discipline, teamwork, integrity, and respect—as aligned with its principles.

“Let the games begin. Let new stars rise. And together, let us elevate cricket to its rightful place,” he said.
