The Nigerian pair of Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa earned a hard-fought 2-1 (21-14, 20-22, 15-9) victory over Egypt to finish third at the CAVB Continental Championship in Martil, Morocco, securing Africa’s final ticket to the global showpiece.
Head coach Kayode Ajilore praised the team’s resilience and discipline, highlighting their determination as the key to success.
“Firstly, I want to give glory to God for crowning our efforts with success. The players have shown the world that our silver medal at the African Games was no fluke. They played to every instruction and gave it their all,” Ajilore said.
Ajilore credited the support system behind the team, particularly thanking Engineer Musa Nimrod, President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, for consistently providing opportunities for the players to thrive.
He also acknowledged the unwavering support of Samuel Onikeku, Sports Secretary of the Nigeria Customs Service, whose presence in Morocco was described as a significant morale booster.
“We deeply appreciate Mr. Onikeku for his financial and psychological support throughout the tournament. His presence really made a great difference,” Ajilore added.
The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) also received praise for its role in the team’s preparation and continued development, as Nigeria continues to assert itself as a rising force in African beach volleyball.
With their third-place finish in Morocco, Team Nigeria joins continental giants Egypt and Morocco as Africa’s representatives at the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship.
