Casey Jarvis is gearing up for the Joburg Open this week after an extraordinary run on the DP World Tour. The South African returned home to find the pin flags of both The Masters and The Open at his house, a striking reminder of his recent achievements.
His victories at the Magical Kenya Open and Investec South African Open propelled him to 80th on the Official World Golf Ranking – the highest of his career – third on the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai Rankings, second on The Courier Guy Order of Merit on the Sunshine Tour, and earned him exemptions into the upcoming Masters and The Open.
Jarvis will compete at Houghton Golf Club, a course he finished ninth at in 2022, hoping to join an elite group of DP World Tour players who have won three successive tournaments, including legends Seve Ballesteros and Sir Nick Faldo. He acknowledges the challenge ahead, noting the strength of the field and the demands of the course, but remains determined to perform despite the mental toll of two intense weeks.
Meanwhile, Gabrielle Venter tees off on the Sunshine Ladies Tour at the Standard Bank Ladies Open in Durbanville from March 5-7. As the last South African winner of the tournament in 2024, Venter draws inspiration from that milestone early in her career.
With a solid start to the 2026 season and previous top finishes, she is focused on maintaining momentum. The event attracts both local and international talent, including Germany’s Sophie Witt and former champions Stacy Bregman, Lee-Anne Pace, and Nadia van der Westhuizen, offering a strong competitive platform ahead of the Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned events in April.
Venter emphasized the importance of international competition in pushing her game further, while tournament sponsors highlighted their commitment to fostering growth, sustainability, and progress for women’s golf in Africa. Both Jarvis and Venter exemplify the rising profile of South African professional golf as the season continues.
