Cameron Young is enjoying one of the strongest stretches of his PGA Tour career, with two victories and two additional top-five finishes in his last five tournaments. Despite his rising status in the game, the 28-year-old says he is not making any major changes to his routine or appearance while in such strong form.
One topic he was quick to dismiss was the idea of shaving his beard. Young explained that he has kept it for several years and has grown comfortable with it, adding that he is even unsure how he would look without it. He also noted that grooming simplicity is part of why he has kept the same look since his college days.
The American golfer returns to familiar ground this week as he competes in the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, not far from where he studied at Wake Forest University. He described the venue as a world-class facility and said he always looks forward to playing the demanding course.
Young has had mixed results at Quail Hollow in past appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2022 and a strong top-10 finish last year after a dip in form the previous seasons. He now arrives in confident shape following a dominant win at the Cadillac Championship, where he finished six shots clear of the field.
That victory came under unusual circumstances, with the presence of former US President Donald Trump adding extra attention to the event. Young said he managed to stay focused throughout the week, crediting his composure and consistency for the comfortable win.
Currently ranked just behind Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy in the world standings, Young’s rise has attracted more attention, but he insists his mindset remains unchanged. He explained that external rankings and media noise do not influence his preparation, as he places greater importance on maintaining focus and managing his own mental approach to the game.
As he continues his strong season, Young believes staying steady mentally will matter more than any external expectations, even as he remains one of the most in-form players on the PGA Tour.
