Australia’s Cameron Green has made IPL history by becoming the most expensive overseas player ever at the 2026 auction. Kolkata Knight Riders secured the 26-year-old all-rounder for ₹25.2 crore (£2.1m), outbidding Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings in a dramatic bidding war.
Green’s record-breaking deal surpasses the previous overseas high of ₹24.75 crore (£2.3m) that KKR paid for fellow Australian pacer Mitchell Starc in 2024. While he is the priciest overseas signing, he ranks third overall in IPL auction history behind India’s Rishabh Pant (₹27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (₹26.75 crore) at the 2025 auction.
The all-rounder has previously represented Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, accumulating 707 runs at a strike rate over 150 and taking 16 wickets in 29 matches. Although he was listed as a capped batter for this auction, Green confirmed he will participate as an all-rounder, attributing the categorization to a management error.
Green has faced setbacks with back injuries, causing him to miss the 2025 IPL following surgery. He returned to competitive action in June as a specialist batter and is currently contributing as an all-rounder for Australia in the ongoing Ashes series against England.
The 2026 IPL auction also saw England players enter the spotlight. Opener Ben Duckett will make his IPL debut with Delhi Capitals for ₹2 crore (£167,000), while other notable names such as Liam Livingstone, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, and Jamie Smith went unsold.
