Bubba Watson Joins Star-Studded Field for 2026 Nedbank Golf Challenge

Posted : 02 November 2026

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson has confirmed his participation in the 2026 Nedbank Golf Challenge in honour of Gary Player, adding further star power to the tournament scheduled for December 3-6 at Sun City's Gary Player Country Club.

The American, a former world number two, will make his first appearance at Africa's Major. His inclusion strengthens an already impressive field featuring several major championship winners, including reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark and former US Open champions Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Rose.

Watson claimed the Masters title in 2012 and 2014 and will now look to add his name to the list of American golfers who have enjoyed success at the prestigious South African event. Previous US winners include Johnny Miller, Raymond Floyd, Corey Pavin, Jim Furyk and Max Homa, while Johannes Veerman was the most recent American champion.

The 47-year-old expressed his enthusiasm about returning to South Africa, praising the country's passion for golf and its history of producing outstanding players. He also highlighted the opportunity to reconnect with local supporters and enjoy the country's wildlife during his visit.

South Africa's representation has also received a boost with the addition of Branden Grace and Aldrich Potgieter.

Grace returns to a tournament he won in 2017, making him the last South African to lift the trophy. The nine-time DP World Tour winner also holds the record for the lowest round in men's major championship history, having carded a 62 at The Open in 2017.

The experienced golfer welcomed the opportunity to compete again at Sun City, describing his return to a tournament he has previously won as a special occasion.

Meanwhile, Potgieter will make his third appearance at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. The 22-year-old has already established himself as one of South Africa's exciting golfing talents, having become the youngest winner in Korn Ferry Tour history and the youngest South African to claim a PGA Tour title.

Potgieter came close to a remarkable debut victory in 2024 after leading the competition through 54 holes. However, he eventually finished second, just one stroke behind American Johannes Veerman.

The latest additions further strengthen the tournament's international appeal as organisers prepare for another edition of Africa's Major. With established major champions and leading South African players in the field, the December competition promises an exciting contest at the Gary Player Country Club.
