Bubba Watson has remained firm in his stance on LIV Golf’s presence in major tournaments, reiterating his belief that top players from the tour should be given a clear path to compete. Speaking at LIV Golf Singapore, the two-time Masters champion welcomed recent qualification changes made by the US Open and The Open, emphasizing the importance of having the best golfers play together on the biggest stages.
He suggested that the top 15 players from LIV Golf’s points or money list should automatically qualify for all majors, a position he has consistently maintained since the league’s inception.
While acknowledging the new pathways established by the R&A and USGA, Watson believes that integrating LIV players into majors would enhance the overall quality and visibility of the tournaments.
He sees their participation as a necessary step to ensure that fans get to see the highest level of competition. According to Watson, the growing recognition of LIV Golf’s presence in the sport signals that the league is not only here to stay but is also becoming a crucial part of professional golf’s future.
The ongoing divide between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour remains a key issue, with LIV players still excluded from earning Official World Golf Ranking points, limiting their chances of direct qualification for major events.
Despite the PGA Tour banning LIV golfers from its tournaments, majors have remained the only battleground where players from both circuits can compete against each other. Watson believes the majors benefit from having LIV players in the mix, as it brings more attention to the events while also showcasing the unique team-based format that sets LIV apart.
