Bryson DeChambeau Dominates at Steyn City, Shares Lead

The Steyn City layout for LIV Golf South Africa has been reshaped for the event, featuring three par‑3s on the front nine and one on the back, technically making a par‑71 course. But for Bryson DeChambeau, the official par doesn’t tell the full story.

DeChambeau, known for his prodigious driving distance, treated two longer par‑4s as if they were short holes. On the opening hole, a 393‑yard par‑4, he unleashed his driver and nearly reached the green off the tee, rolling in two putts for birdie.

He repeated the feat on the 364‑yard fifth, sending his tee shot well past the green and scrambling for another birdie. Those drives, effectively turning long par‑4s into drivable opportunities, added to the conventional par‑3s and highlighted just how dangerous he can be when striking the ball.

Throughout the round, DeChambeau drew huge crowds of spectators eager to watch one of the game’s most powerful hitters. His ability to reach par‑5s in two and bomb long par‑4s created scoring chances others could only envy. With a brilliant eight‑under‑par 63 that included multiple birdies and electrifying tee shots, he finished the day tied for the individual lead.
