Brian Harman eyes Masters redemption after Claret Jug triumph

Posted : 09 April 2024

Brian Harman, the left-handed golfer from Savannah, Georgia, made waves last July by clinching his first major title, the Claret Jug, at Royal Liverpool. Despite facing hostile crowds, Harman's resilience and confidence propelled him to victory, setting the stage for his return home with hopes of securing a Masters green jacket. Reflecting on his triumph, Harman emphasized the confidence gained from overcoming adversity on the course, preparing him for the challenges ahead.

As he prepares for the Masters, Harman aims to become the first golfer since Jordan Spieth in 2015 to secure consecutive major titles. Drawing upon his experience at The Open, where he excelled under pressure, Harman feels better equipped to handle the demands of major tournaments. However, he humorously acknowledges the uncertainty of having supportive crowds, joking that he performs better when facing opposition rather than encouragement.

Harman, one of only five left-handed golfers to win major titles, acknowledges the historical success of lefties at Augusta National. Despite the challenges posed by the course, including its length, Harman remains undeterred, focusing on meticulous preparation. His recent performance at The Players Championship and strategic warm-up in Texas signify his determination to contend for the coveted green jacket, aligning his mental focus with the excitement of turkey hunting season, which serves as a welcomed distraction and source of tranquility amidst the intensity of competition.
