Boniface Falls Three Runs Short of Century as Nigeria Face Uganda in U19 Qualifier

Posted : 10 August 2026

Nigeria U19 batter Kenneth Boniface produced an impressive innings of 97 runs against Uganda in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 2. The young batter fell just three runs short of a century after playing a major role in Nigeria’s batting effort.

Boniface's innings stood out as one of the positives for Nigeria in the contest. He showed patience and determination at the crease as the Nigerian side attempted to build a competitive total against Uganda.

The 97-run effort would have given Boniface a memorable century at international youth level. However, his dismissal just three runs short denied him the personal milestone despite his substantial contribution to the team's innings.

Nigeria were eventually bowled out for 176 by Uganda in the qualifier. The result made Boniface's contribution particularly important, as his innings accounted for more than half of Nigeria's total.

The Junior Yellow Greens are competing in the Africa Division 2 qualifying competition as they seek progress in the pathway towards the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. The tournament provides young African players with an opportunity to gain international experience and compete for a place at the global level.

For Boniface, the performance represents an important individual highlight despite narrowly missing out on three figures. A score of 97 against Uganda gives the Nigerian batter confidence as he continues his development on the international stage.

Nigeria will now look to the rest of their qualifying campaign after the Uganda encounter. The team must improve collectively in both batting and bowling if they are to remain in contention for progression from the African qualifying pathway.

Boniface's near-century will remain one of the key talking points from Nigeria's performance. His ability to carry the innings deep and produce 97 runs provides encouragement for the Junior Yellow Greens ahead of their remaining fixtures.
